功能	Receptor for MSH (alpha, beta and gamma) and ACTH. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylate cyclase.
總結(jié)	This intronless gene encodes the receptor protein formelanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH). The encoded protein, a sevenpass transmembrane G protein coupled receptor, controlsmelanogenesis. Two types of melanin exist: red pheomelanin andblack eumelanin. Gene mutations that lead to a loss in function areassociated with increased pheomelanin production, which leads tolighter skin and hair color. Eumelanin is photoprotective butpheomelanin may contribute to UV-induced skin damage by generatingfree radicals upon UV radiation. Binding of MSH to its receptoractivates the receptor and stimulates eumelanin synthesis. Thisreceptor is a major determining factor in sun sensitivity and is agenetic risk factor for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Over30 variant alleles have been identified which correlate with skinand hair color, providing evidence that this gene is an importantcomponent in determining normal human pigment variation. 儲(chǔ)存條件	Store at +4°C short term. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20°C or below. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
