功能	Integrins alpha-4/beta-1 (VLA-4) and alpha-4/beta-7 are receptors for fibronectin. They recognize one or more domains within the alternatively spliced CS-1 and CS-5 regions of fibronectin. They are also receptors for VCAM1. Integrin alpha- 4/beta-1 recognizes the sequence Q-I-D-S in VCAM1. Integrin alpha- 4/beta-7 is also a receptor for MADCAM1. It recognizes the sequence L-D-T in MADCAM1. On activated endothelial cells integrin VLA-4 triggers homotypic aggregation for most VLA-4-positive leukocyte cell lines. It may also participate in cytolytic T-cell interactions with target cells.
總結(jié)	Integrin alpha 4 is a cell surface heterodimer (VLA4, CD49d/CD29) which belongs to the integrin family and is involved in cell-extracellular matrix interactions, as well as in intercellular adhesion. Unlike other integrin alpha subunits, the alpha subunit of Integrin alpha 4 can appear as a 150-kDa polypeptide (alpha 150), or cleaved into two non-covalently associated polypeptides (alpha 70-80). The relative proportion of each form is highly variable among different cells and is dependent on the state of cellular activation (1). Integrin alpha 4 regulates cellular functions, differently from other integrins, through its cytoplasmic tail, making it indispensable for embryogenesis, haematopoiesis and immune responses (2). Integrin alpha 4, initially discovered on lymphoid cells, is actually known to be highly expressed on T cells, B cells, monocytes, and derived cell lines (3). It has a key function in the adhesion interaction between stem/progenitor cells and the stromal microenvironmental cells and their matrix within the bone marrow (4).
